What Are Panic Attacks And How They Work

Panic attacks are common and nothing that you should be ashamed of. People who have panic attacks are often times thought to be having an asthma attack or even a heart attack. Learning to control panic attacks is an essential part when learning to manage anxiety. Understanding panic attacks is half the battle when knowing how to cope with these attacks. Having to live with panic attacks and bouts of anxiety is very difficult; it’s like walking around with a pistol that is loaded, and never knowing when it is going to go off. There is no obvious reasons to have these attacks, provides very little relief to the person suffering from the attacks. Relaxation is the most important factor in overcoming an attack. About 33% of the population can expect a panic attack at some point in their lives. Over a one year period, 35% of the population can expect a panic attack. These attacks are brought on by an overwhelming fear or terror. You can expect them to last about a half hour, usually peaking within the first ten minutes, and usually begin all at once. This can worsen the situation because the symptoms feel life threatening. Although these attacks are real and serious, it is noted that they are also easily treated. Nothing has been documented stating any hard has come as a result of these attacks.

Not realizing they are actually having a panic attack, many people will ignore the symptoms. Avoid things like alcohol, smoking and caffeine for these things all contribute to these attacks. Certain situations or the anticipation of certain situations can bring on an attack. You don’t have to be experiencing a panic attack to become apprehensive or have an increase in overall nervousness. With time, the way you think and feel, or your behaviors can be altered because of panic attacks. Usually what triggered an attack is some unconscious fear or a memory that was started by the un-subconscious mind. Scientist believes that many phobias and other stresses are related to these panic attacks. As a result of having to live with panic disorder, many have become depressed. Seeking the proper help and knowing the symptoms is vital when dealing with panic disorder. To begin, you must know how these symptoms develop, you want to know how long the attacks last, and also want to know how many symptoms are present and what they are. It is very important to know how to look for these symptoms and deal with them, in order to avoid seeking emergency medical attention. You may find this hard to do at first, but try to control your breathing; you will find this very critical when trying to return to a normal state. This also allows you the confidence of knowing you can treat yourself in the event you are alone. The more you are familiar with these symptoms, the better you can treat them. Get to the root cause of the anxiety, by knowing what triggers the anxiety. That way, if ever in a situation that may trigger these attacks, you will know the symptoms and may be able to lesson or thwart off the attack. Believe it or not, exercise is a great relief for anxiety. Pheromones or also knows as “happy hormones” are released through exercise. The effects are felt all over the body, because you feel great when this happens. The best advice I have is to not let panic attacks rule your life, you alone can control them or even eliminate them all together from your life.
